How to Draw a Scottish Terrier
Draw a Scottish terrier in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top left draw a long head like a rounded brick. Leave lots of room on the right.
Tip Make it longer than it is tall, with a flat top.
Step 2: Nose and beard
Draw a long nose sticking out left, with a black tip and a smile. Hang a bumpy beard under it.
Tip Keep the top of the nose in line with the top of the head, like one long brick.
Step 3: Big eye
Above the nose draw one big round eye with a black dot and a shine. Add a bushy 3-bump eyebrow.
Tip One eye: this dog is looking to the left.
Step 4: The ears
On the head draw a pointy ear standing up like a sail. Add the other ear's tip peeking up behind.
Step 5: The neck
From behind the head draw the neck's back sloping down. From the chin draw its front down to the chest.
Tip The neck grows out from behind the head and gets wider toward the body.
Step 6: The body
From the neck draw a long low loaf body: a flat back, a round bottom, then back along the tummy.
Tip Long and low, like a sausage dog with a beard.
Step 7: Two legs
Draw a ground line. Add a stubby front leg and back leg, each with a round paw and 2 toes.
Tip Scottie legs are very short: the tummy is close to the ground.
Step 8: The far legs
Add a thin far leg peeking out beside each near leg: just a strip and a paw, no toes.
Tip Only draw the parts you can see: 4 paws on the ground.
Step 9: The tail
On the top of the bottom draw a short thick tail standing straight up like a carrot.
Tip A Scottie always carries its tail up.
Step 10: The collar
Across the neck draw a collar: 2 curved lines from top to bottom, a finger apart, joined at the ends.
Step 11: Red collar, grey ear
Colour the collar red and the inside of the ear grey. Go over the black nose.
Step 12: Dark grey coat
Colour the head, snout, beard, ears, neck, body, legs and tail dark grey, around the nose, collar and inner ear.
Tip Keep the eyes white. Your Scottie is done!
