How to Draw a Schooner
Draw a schooner in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the hull.
Step 1: The hull
Below the middle, draw a hull: a sagging deck with a pointy front and a shallow U underneath.
Tip The hull is like a sailboat's: the two masts make it a schooner.
Step 2: Two masts
Draw 2 masts on the deck: a tall one at the back, a shorter one in front, balls on top.
Step 3: The main sail
Draw a big 4-sided sail behind the tall mast, its top a pole from the mast up to the tip.
Step 4: The front sail
Draw a smaller sail the same way from the shorter mast, going back until it almost meets the tall mast.
Step 5: Little triangle sail
From the shorter mast, curve a triangle sail down to the bow, then go straight back to the mast.
Step 6: Flags and stripes
Add a flag at each mast top. Draw 2 lines from each mast across its sail for a stripe.
Step 7: Rim and portholes
Draw a rim line under the deck from end to end. Add 4 round portholes in a row under it.
Step 8: Waves
Draw a row of gentle wave bumps across the paper, just above the boat's bottom. Add a lower row.
Step 9: The sun
In the top right corner draw a circle for the sun with eight short rays all around.
Step 10: Yellow sun, blue sea
Colour the sun yellow. Colour the sea blue from the top wave down to the bottom.
Step 11: Red flags, brown masts
Colour the flags and the sail stripes red, and the masts and balls brown. Leave the sails white.
Step 12: Navy hull
Colour the hull navy down to the water, leaving the rim and portholes white. Your schooner is ready to sail!
