How to Draw a Scarab Beetle
Draw a scarab beetle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide head shield.
Step 1: Wide head shield
Near the top draw a wide flat shield for the head, with 3 soft bumps along the top.
Step 2: Two big eyes
In the middle of the head draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a small open smile: a flat line with a U under it. Add round cheeks.
Step 4: Neck plate
Under the head draw a wide rounded band, wider than the head, with a flat bottom.
Step 5: Big shell
Under the neck plate draw a big oval shell, about as wide as the plate.
Step 6: Shell lines
Draw a straight line down the middle of the shell. Add one gently curved line on each side of it.
Step 7: Digging front legs
From each side of the neck plate draw a leg out, then up to a small foot. Add 2 teeth.
Tip The toothed front legs are scarab shovels for digging.
Step 8: Middle and back legs
From each side of the shell draw a leg out, then down to a small foot. Add a lower pair.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, red mouth
Go over your lines. Colour the cheeks pink and the open mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Teal head and shell
Colour the head, the neck plate and the shell teal, around the eyes, cheeks and mouth.
Step 11: Dark grey legs
Colour all 6 legs and their teeth dark grey.
