How to Draw a Number 3 Butterfly
Draw a number 3 butterfly in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the right 3.
Step 1: The right 3
On the right half, draw a fat bubble 3: a round curl on top, a bigger curl below.
Tip Two 3s back to back make butterfly wings!
Step 2: A backwards 3
On the left, leaving a gap 2 fingers wide, draw the same fat 3 backwards, like a mirror.
Step 3: The head and eyes
In the gap near the top, draw a round head. Add 2 big eyes, each with a black dot.
Step 4: Smile and antennae
Under the eyes, draw a U smile. From the top of the head, draw 2 curved antennae with ball tips.
Step 5: The body
Under the head, draw a slim egg body ending in a soft point. Add 2 lines across it.
Step 6: Sparkles
Draw 4 sparkle stars round the butterfly, 2 on each side, one higher and one lower.
Step 7: Floor and shadow
Draw a flat oval shadow under the butterfly. Draw a floor line from each side, stopping under the sparkles.
Step 8: Yellow sparkles, grey shadow
Go over your lines. Colour the 4 sparkles yellow and the shadow under the butterfly grey.
Step 9: Ginger body
Colour the head, the body and the antenna balls ginger. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Purple wings
Colour both 3s purple, keeping inside their outlines. Your number 3 butterfly is done!
