How to Draw the Sandman
Draw the Sandman in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Near the top, in the middle, draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.
Tip Leave room on the left for the raised hand.
Step 2: Smiling face
Draw 2 closed eyes: a soft curve each, like an upside-down smile. Add a tiny nose and a smile.
Step 3: Beard and moustache
Under the nose draw a soft cloud moustache above the smile. Add a long U beard from cheek to cheek.
Step 4: Floppy nightcap
Over the head draw a long floppy cap drooping down on the right, with a pompom on the tip.
Step 5: Nightgown
Under the beard draw a long nightgown with short sleeves, down to the hem. Add 2 buttons.
Step 6: Arms
From each sleeve draw an arm: the left straight out to a wrist, the right bent back to the gown.
Step 7: Fists
On each wrist draw a round fist with a thumb bump: the left pointing out, the right pointing in.
Step 8: Pouch and sand
Draw a round bag with a tie under the right fist. Dot 6 sand grains falling from the left fist.
Step 9: Slippers and moon
Draw 2 slippers under the hem and a ground line. High on the left draw a crescent moon with stars.
Step 10: Yellow moon, tan pouch
Colour the moon and the stars yellow, and the pouch tan.
Step 11: Peach skin
Colour the cheeks pink, then the face, arms and fists peach around them. Leave the beard and moustache white.
Step 12: Blue nightgown
Colour the nightgown and the cap blue, around the pompom and buttons. Leave those white.
Step 13: Brown slippers
Colour the slippers brown. Go over your lines and your sandman is done.
