How to Draw a Birthday Card

Draw a birthday card in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the card front.

Step 1: The card front
In the middle of your paper draw a tall box standing up for the front of the card.
Step 2: The folded back
Start at the top right corner. Slant a line down just outside the card, then back to the bottom corner.
Tip Now the card looks folded open a little.
Step 3: The cake
Below the middle of the card draw a wide box with round corners for the cake.
Tip Leave room above the cake for the candles.
Step 4: The plate
Right under the cake draw a long thin plate, a little wider than the cake.
Step 5: Drippy icing
Start on the cake's left edge, near the top. Draw 3 U drips across. Stop at the right edge.
Tip Make the drips fat and round, like melting ice cream.
Step 6: Three candles
Start on the cake top. Draw 3 thin candles, the middle one taller. Stop each on the cake top.
Tip Keep the candles the same width, with a gap between them.
Step 7: Three flames
Just above each candle draw a teardrop flame, round at the bottom and pointed on top.
Tip Make each flame a little wider than its candle.
Step 8: Four stars
Draw 4 little stars on the card, one near each corner.
Tip A star has 5 points. Make 2 stars big and 2 small.
Step 9: The ground
Draw a long ground line under the card, from the left of your paper to the right.
Step 10: Cream card
Go over your lines. Colour the card front cream, round the cake, candles and stars. Colour the back sand.
Step 11: Yellow cake
Colour the cake yellow below the icing. Colour the 4 stars yellow too.
Step 12: Pink icing, blue candles
Colour the icing pink. Colour the 3 candles and the plate light blue.
Step 13: Orange flames
Colour the 3 flames orange. Your birthday card is ready to give!
