How to Draw a Sailfin Dragon
Draw a sailfin dragon in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and body.
Step 1: Head and body
On the left, draw the head and body in one line, with a round nose and a humped back.
Tip Leave room on the right for a long tail.
Step 2: Big eye
High in the head, draw one big circle eye with a big black dot and a white shine.
Step 3: Grin and nostril
From the nose tip, draw a long grin back under the eye, curling up at the end. Dot a nostril.
Step 4: Long tail
From the end of the back, draw a long tail down to a thin point, then back to the body.
Tip Make the tail longer than the body. Rub out the body line inside it.
Step 5: Two near legs
Under the chest, draw a short leg with 3 round toes. Draw the same leg under the hip.
Tip Rub out the tummy line inside each leg.
Step 6: Two far legs
Just behind each leg, draw the far leg peeking out as a thin strip, down to a round foot.
Step 7: Ground line
Draw one long ground line under all the feet and the tail tip, from side to side.
Step 8: Tall sail
Where the tail starts, draw a tall round sail down to the middle of the tail. Add 4 lines inside.
Tip The tall sail on the tail is what makes it a sailfin dragon.
Step 9: Spiky back
Along the back, from the neck to the sail, draw 5 spikes, tallest at the neck, smaller toward the sail.
Step 10: Teal sail
Go over your lines. Colour the tall sail teal.
Step 11: Green lizard
Colour the head, body, legs and tail green, around the sail. Leave the eye white.
Step 12: Grey spikes
Colour the back spikes dark grey. Your sailfin dragon is done!
