How to Draw a House Cat

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a house cat in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big round head

Near the top, draw a big egg on its side. Give each cheek 2 tiny fur points.

Tip The head is more than half of the whole cat.

  2. Step 2: Pointy ears

Start on the left of the head. Draw a tall pointy ear and stop on the head. Do both.

Tip Add a small triangle inside each ear.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Below the middle, draw 2 big oval eyes, one eye apart, with black dots and white shines.

  4. Step 4: Nose and W smile

Under the eyes, draw a small upside-down triangle nose. From its point, draw a W smile under each eye.

  5. Step 5: Round body

Start under each cheek. Draw a big C down to meet at the bottom. Add a U chest.

Tip The body is a fat pear, never wider than the head.

  6. Step 6: Front legs

Start on the chest. Draw a U leg with a fat mitten paw, back to the chest. Do 2.

  7. Step 7: Long curly tail

Start on the right of the body. Draw a thick tail down to the ground and curl it up.

  8. Step 8: Back paws

Under each side of the body, draw a plump bun for the back paw. Add 2 toe lines.

  9. Step 9: Whiskers

Start 3 whiskers on each cheek and fan them out past the head.

  10. Step 10: Collar, bell and ground

Start under the chin on the left. Draw a smile curve, stop on the right. Hang a bell. Add ground.

  11. Step 11: Cream chest and paws

Colour the chest and all 4 paws cream. Colour the ear insides pink.

  12. Step 12: Red collar, yellow bell

Colour the collar red and the bell yellow.

  13. Step 13: Black fur

Colour the fur black around the eyes, paws, chest and collar. Leave a white oval round the nose. Press softly.
