How to Draw a Sailboat
Draw a sailboat in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the hull.
Step 1: The hull
Below the middle, draw a boat hull: a flat deck, a pointy bow, a curved bottom. Add a rim line.
Step 2: The mast
From the deck, left of the middle, draw a tall thin mast almost to the top. Add a ball.
Step 3: The big sail
From high on the mast, curve down to above the back. Draw a straight line back to the mast.
Step 4: The front sail
From lower on the mast, curve down to the bow tip. Draw a straight line back to the mast.
Step 5: The pennant
Just under the ball, draw a short pointy flag streaming back to the left.
Step 6: Sail band
Draw 2 lines across the big sail, from the mast to the curved edge, to make a wide band.
Step 7: Portholes
Near the front of the boat, under the rim, draw 3 round portholes in a row.
Step 8: The life ring
Near the back, under the rim, draw a fat ring with a small hole in the middle.
Step 9: Waves
Start at the left edge, above the boat's bottom. Draw wave bumps to the right edge. Add a lower row.
Tip Rub out the bottom of the boat under the waves.
Step 10: The sun
In the top right corner, draw a round sun with 8 short rays pointing out.
Step 11: Yellow sun, red boat
Colour the sun yellow. Colour the hull, flag and 4 ring bands red. Leave the rim, portholes and ring white.
Step 12: Blue band, blue sea
Colour the sail band blue. Colour the sea blue from the top waves to the bottom of the paper.
Step 13: Brown mast
Colour the mast and ball brown. Leave the sails white.
