How to Draw a Safari

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a safari in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: two big wheels.

Print

  1. Step 1: Two big wheels

Low on the left draw 2 big circles, a wheel apart. Draw a smaller circle inside each one.

  2. Step 2: Boxy jeep body

Over the wheels draw a long box with a door dip and an arch over each wheel. Add a headlight.

Tip The front of the jeep points right. The headlight is a small circle near the front.

  3. Step 3: Windscreen and roll bar

Right of the dip draw a tall leaning windscreen. At the back draw an upside-down U bar.

  4. Step 4: The giraffe's head

High on the right draw a sideways head like a peanut: a round back end and a smaller nose end.

Tip The nose end points left and a little down.

  5. Step 5: Eye and smile

Give the giraffe a round eye with a black dot, and a little smile on its nose end.

Tip Leave a tiny white shine in the eye.

  6. Step 6: Horns and ear

On top of the head draw 2 short horns with round knobs. Add a leaf ear pointing back.

  7. Step 7: Neck and body

From the head draw a long neck sloping down to the right. Carry on round a short barrel body.

Tip The neck gets wider as it goes down. The back is almost level.

  8. Step 8: Two long legs

Draw a long leg from the shoulder and one from the hip. Each has a knee bump and a hoof.

Tip The legs start up on the body and get thinner below the knee.

  9. Step 9: Far legs

Between them draw 2 more legs peeking out under the tummy, with gaps in between. Add their hooves.

Tip The far hooves sit a little higher: they are further away.

  10. Step 10: Tail and patches

Hang a thin tail with a leaf tip from the hip. Draw 4 soft patches on the neck and body.

Tip Keep the patches inside the lines.

  11. Step 11: Tree and ground

Draw a ground line behind everything. On it draw a Y trunk with a wide flat treetop.

Tip The treetop is flat underneath and bumpy on top, like an umbrella.

  12. Step 12: Yellow and blue

Go over your lines. Colour the giraffe and the headlight yellow, around the patches. Colour the glass light blue.

Tip Leave the hooves and the giraffe's eye white.

  13. Step 13: Brown and green

Colour the patches, hooves and tree trunk brown. Colour the jeep and the treetop green.

  14. Step 14: Grey, black and sand

Colour the rims and the roll bar grey and the tyres black. Colour the ground sandy yellow.
