How to Draw a Sad Dog

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a sad dog in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big oval head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big oval head

Near the top, draw a big oval a little wider than tall. It is almost half the whole puppy.

Tip Leave room underneath for the body and legs.

  2. Step 2: Droopy ears

From the top of the head, draw a long ear hanging down past the cheek, back up inside the head.

Tip Do both ears. Rub out the head line inside each ear.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

Across the middle of the head, draw 2 egg eyes with a gap between. Add black dots and white shines.

  4. Step 4: Sad eyebrows

Above each eye draw a short eyebrow. Start low at the outside and slope up towards the middle.

Tip Eyebrows that tip up in the middle make a face look sad.

  5. Step 5: Snout and nose

Under the eyes, draw a wide oval for the snout. Sit a black triangle nose on top of it.

  6. Step 6: Turned-down mouth

From the nose draw a short line down. From its end draw a curve down to each side.

Tip A mouth that curves down is a frown. Keep it inside the snout.

  7. Step 7: Round body

Start where each ear meets the cheek. Draw a big C down each side. Join them with a saggy line.

Tip The body is a bit wider than the head.

  8. Step 8: Collar and tag

Start under the chin. Draw 2 saggy curves across to the other side of the body. Hang a circle tag.

  9. Step 9: Front legs

Start under the collar. Draw a leg that narrows, a round paw, then back up to the tag.

Tip Do both, with 2 toes each. Rub out the body line inside the legs.

  10. Step 10: Back paws and tail

Draw a hill paw at each bottom corner. From the right side, draw a fat tail drooping to the ground.

Tip Add 2 toes to each paw. Rub out the body line inside them.

  11. Step 11: A tear and ground

Under the left eye draw 1 teardrop. Draw a ground line under the paws, from side to side.

  12. Step 12: Cream snout, blue tear

Colour the snout cream and the tear light blue. Leave the eyes white.

  13. Step 13: Tan fur

Colour the head, body, legs and tail tan, around the snout and the tear.

  14. Step 14: Brown ears, red collar

Colour the 2 droopy ears brown and the collar red.
