How to Draw a Running Rooster
Draw a running rooster in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left, start at the chin. Draw a round head over the top and stop at the back.
Tip Leave the bottom right open for the neck.
Step 2: Bumpy comb
Start on the forehead. Draw 4 tall round bumps along the top of the head and stop at the back.
Step 3: Pointy beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a pointy beak out to the left and back to the chin.
Tip Add a line from the tip back to the head, so the beak is shut.
Step 4: Big eye
Above the beak draw one big round eye with a black dot and a tiny shine.
Step 5: Dangly wattle
Under the beak draw a raindrop hanging down from the chin.
Step 6: Leaning body
Start behind the head. Draw the neck and back, round the tail end, under the tummy, up to the chin.
Tip The neck stretches forwards and the chest leans low. That is how a rooster runs.
Step 7: One wing
On the side of the body draw a leaf-shaped wing pointing back, with 3 round bumps underneath.
Step 8: Tail feathers
From the tail end sweep 4 long feathers up and over, each ending in a soft point.
Tip Start with the top feather. It is the longest.
Step 9: Fat thighs
Under the tummy draw 2 short fat thighs: one pointing forwards, one pointing back.
Step 10: Front leg
Draw a ground line. From the front thigh draw a thin leg reaching forwards, with 3 toes spread out.
Tip The lowest toe just touches the ground.
Step 11: Back leg
From the back thigh draw a thin leg kicking out behind, with 3 toes hanging down.
Tip This foot is in the air. One leg forward and one leg back makes a run.
Step 12: Yellow and ginger
Colour the beak and legs yellow. Colour the head, body and thighs ginger, around the wing and wattle.
Tip Keep the eye white.
Step 13: Teal and red
Colour the wing and the 4 tail feathers teal. Colour the comb and wattle red.
Tip Your running rooster is done!
