How to Draw a Red Lantern

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a red lantern in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the middle rib.

Print

  1. Step 1: The middle rib

In the middle draw a tall oval with a point at the top and the bottom, like a lemon.

Tip Make it fattest halfway down.

  2. Step 2: Fat side ribs

From the top of the middle rib, draw a fat C round to its bottom. Same on the right.

Tip The ribs all meet at the top and the bottom.

  3. Step 3: The top cap

Over the top point draw a short flat box for the cap, covering where the ribs meet.

  4. Step 4: Round outer ribs

Start under the top cap. Draw a wider C outside the fat rib, down to the bottom. Same on right.

  5. Step 5: The bottom cap

Over the bottom point draw a smaller flat box for the bottom cap, covering where the ribs meet.

  6. Step 6: The tassel

From the bottom cap draw a line to a knot, then a tassel with a wavy bottom and 2 lines.

  7. Step 7: String and bar

From the top cap draw a line straight up, a finger long. Put a flat bar across its top.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw a sparkle star on each side of the lantern.

  9. Step 9: Gold caps and tassel

Colour the 2 caps, the bar, the knot, the tassel and the 2 sparkles gold yellow.

  10. Step 10: Red lantern

Colour the lantern red around the caps, leaving a curved white shine on the upper left. It's ready to hang!
