How to Draw a Raptor
Draw a raptor in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long head.
Step 1: Long head
Near the top left, draw a big head like a bean with a long snout and a brow bump.
Tip Keep the snout long and low. That is what makes it a raptor.
Step 2: Big eye
Under the brow bump, draw a big oval eye with a big black dot. Dot a nostril on the snout.
Tip Leave a little white shine in the top corner of the eye.
Step 3: Back and long tail
Start behind the head. Draw down the neck and along the back to a pointy tail tip, then back underneath.
Tip A raptor holds its long tail out straight and stiff.
Step 4: Big toothy grin
Start at the tip of the snout. Draw a long smile back under the eye, curling up at the cheek.
Tip Hang 6 pointy teeth from the smile.
Step 5: Chest and clawed arm
Start under the jaw. Draw a soft curve down to the hip. From the chest, draw an arm reaching forward.
Tip The arm ends in 3 sharp claws.
Step 6: Strong leg
From the end of the chest line, draw a leg with a round thigh, a bent knee and 3 toes.
Step 7: Sickle claw
On top of the foot, draw one big curved claw, hooked like a banana. Raptors are famous for it.
Step 8: Tummy
Start at the back of the thigh. Draw a short curve back, stopping where the tail line ended.
Step 9: Back leg and ground
From the tummy, draw the back leg down to 3 toes and up to the tail. Add a ground line.
Step 10: Stripes down the back
Draw 5 leaf stripes under the back line: 1 on the neck, 3 on the back, 1 on the tail.
Step 11: Ginger raptor
Go over your lines. Colour the raptor ginger, going around the stripes. Leave the eye, teeth and big claw white.
Step 12: Brown stripes
Colour the 5 stripes brown, and your raptor is ready to run.
