How to Draw a Mimic Octopus
Draw a mimic octopus in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall head and body.
Step 1: Tall head and body
In the middle of your paper, draw a tall egg for the head and body, widest below the middle.
Tip A mimic octopus is slimmer than most, and covered in stripes.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Below the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes with a gap between. Add black dots and shines.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Start under the left eye. Draw a small U smile and stop under the right eye. Add tiny round cheeks.
Step 4: Head stripes
Across the top of the head, draw 4 lines that dip a little in the middle, well above the eyes.
Step 5: Two side arms
From each side of the head, sweep an arm down low, getting thinner, and curl its tip outwards.
Step 6: Four middle arms
Inside the side arms, draw 2 more arms each side, reaching down low. The back one just peeks out.
Step 7: Two front arms
Under the middle of the head, draw 2 front arms reaching down low, curling the tips outwards.
Step 8: Arm bands
Across the middle of each arm, draw 2 short lines a finger apart, like a ring. Skip the peeking arms.
Step 9: Sand, seaweed, bubbles
Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom. Add a wiggly seaweed leaf on the left and 2 bubbles.
Step 10: Cream stripes and rings
Colour the 2 stripes on the head and the rings between the arm lines cream. Leave the eyes white.
Step 11: Sand and bubbles
Colour the floor under the sand line sandy and the bubbles light blue.
Step 12: Pink cheeks, green weed
Colour the cheeks pink and the seaweed green.
Step 13: Brown octopus
Colour the head and all 8 arms brown, around the eyes, cheeks, stripes and rings. All done!
