How to Draw a Golden Retriever Running

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a golden retriever running in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: happy head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Happy head

Near the top left, draw a big soft egg lying on its side for the head.

Tip Leave lots of room on the right for the long body.

  2. Step 2: Flying ears

Draw a long ear flying back from the right of the head, bumpy underneath. Add one flapping up on top.

Tip The ears fly back because the dog is running fast.

  3. Step 3: Bright eyes

A little above the middle, draw 2 tall oval eyes. Add a black dot and a tiny shine in each.

  4. Step 4: Snout and nose

Low on the left of the head, draw a wide soft snout poking out. Add a black nose on top.

  5. Step 5: Smile and tongue

From the nose, draw a short line down into a w smile. Hang a U tongue under it.

  6. Step 6: Stretched body

Start behind the ear. Draw a long flat back, a round rump, a tucked tummy and a fluffy chest.

Tip The chest is deep and the tummy tucks up, like a real runner.

  7. Step 7: Reaching front leg

Draw a ground line. From the chest, draw a bent leg reaching forward to a paw on the ground.

Tip The leg bends at the elbow and the wrist. The 2 bumps are silky fur.

  8. Step 8: Pushing back leg

From the rump, draw a wide thigh going back. Bend it at the hock, down to a paw.

Tip The back leg pushes the dog along.

  9. Step 9: Far legs

Draw 2 more legs peeking out: one reaching forward, one kicking back. Their paws are off the ground.

  10. Step 10: Streaming tail

From the top of the rump, draw a tail flying back and up. Hang 3 soft bumps under it.

Tip A golden's tail is a big feathery plume.

  11. Step 11: Toes

Draw 2 short toe lines on each paw on the ground, and 1 on each lifted paw.

  12. Step 12: Cream and pink

Colour the snout cream, around the black nose. Colour the tongue pink.

  13. Step 13: Golden fur

Colour all the fur golden yellow, around the snout and tongue. Leave the eyes white.
