How to Draw a Racing Helmet
Draw a racing helmet in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the shell.
Step 1: The shell
In the middle draw a big round shell with a flat bottom and a chunky chin at the front.
Tip Make it nearly as wide as your page.
Step 2: Long visor
Start on the front edge below the top. Draw a long window across the shell, back to the front.
Tip Round the back end of the window.
Step 3: Face in the visor
Inside the visor draw 2 big egg eyes with black dots, one eye apart: the driver looking out.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, inside the visor, draw a U smile, and a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: Visor hinge
On the back end of the visor draw a small circle: the hinge the visor swings on.
Step 6: Chin vents
On the chin under the visor draw 3 short slanted lines in a row for the air vents.
Step 7: Band over the top
A little below the top edge, draw 2 curved lines close together, from the front edge to the back.
Tip Keep the 2 lines the same distance apart all the way.
Step 8: Checkered squares
Draw one line along the middle of the band. Then draw 7 short lines across it to make squares.
Tip Space the 7 lines evenly: you get 16 squares.
Step 9: Rim and ground
Start at the chin. Draw a rim line just inside the bottom edge, stop at the back. Add the ground.
Step 10: Yellow shell
Colour the shell yellow. Go around the visor, the hinge, the band and the rim.
Tip Leave the band white for now.
Step 11: Sky visor, pink cheeks
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the visor sky blue around the eyes and cheeks.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Grey rim
Colour the rim along the bottom grey, and the little round hinge too.
Step 13: Black squares
Colour every other square black, like a chessboard. Go over your lines. Your racing helmet is done!
Tip Black and white take turns: no 2 black squares share a side.
