How to Draw a Quarter Rest
Draw a quarter rest in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the zigzag.
Step 1: The zigzag
Start near the top. Draw a zigzag: slant down to the right, back to the left, then right again. Stop.
Tip It looks like a little lightning bolt.
Step 2: The hook
From the end go back left a little, then curl down and round like a C to a pointed tail.
Step 3: Fat hook
From the tail tip draw a bigger C round the outside of the hook. Stop level with its top.
Tip Keep the gap wide in the middle and thin at the tail.
Step 4: Fat zigzag
From the end zigzag back up: slant up to the right, then up left to meet the very top.
Tip The whole shape is closed now, with nothing left open.
Step 5: The middle line
Draw a long flat line across the middle, from side to side. Hop over the fat shape.
Tip Never draw inside the fat shape.
Step 6: Lines above
Draw 2 more long lines above: one across the top slant, one just above the very top.
Step 7: Lines below
Draw 2 more long lines below: one across the hook, one just under the tail.
Tip Music is written on 5 lines. Count them!
Step 8: Two little notes
Draw a little music note top left and one bottom right: a dot, a stem, a flag.
Step 9: Sparkles
Draw a sparkle star in the top right corner and one in the bottom left corner.
Tip A sparkle star has 4 points: up, down, left and right.
Step 10: Yellow sparkles
Colour the 2 sparkles yellow.
Step 11: Blue quarter rest
Colour the whole fat zigzag and its hook blue.
Step 12: Purple little notes
Colour the 2 little note dots purple. Go over your lines, and your quarter rest is ready!
