How to Draw a 3D Cylinder

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a 3D cylinder in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top oval.

Print

  1. Step 1: The top oval

Near the top of your paper, draw a flat oval, wider than tall. This is the top of the can.

Tip A cylinder is a tin can: round top, straight sides, round bottom.

  2. Step 2: Sides and bottom

From each oval end, draw a line down as long as the oval is wide. Join them with a smile.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

A little above the middle of the can, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot in each.

  4. Step 4: A big smile

A little under the eyes, draw a big wide U smile from the left eye to the right eye.

  5. Step 5: Rosy cheeks

Beside each end of the smile, leaving a small gap, draw a small sideways oval cheek.

  6. Step 6: A shade line

Draw one light straight line down the right part of the can, from the top oval to the bottom curve.

Tip The right side will be in shade, which makes the can look round.

  7. Step 7: Four sparkles

Draw 2 small sparkle stars on each side of the can, one higher and one lower.

  8. Step 8: Floor and shadow

Under the can, draw a floor line well past each side. Add a thin flat oval shadow round the bottom.

  9. Step 9: Yellow sparkles, pink top

Go over your lines. Colour the sparkles yellow, and the top oval and both cheeks pink.

  10. Step 10: Grey shadow

Colour the shadow under the can grey.

  11. Step 11: Red cylinder

Colour the front of the can red, going around the face and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Dark red side

Colour the strip right of the shade line dark red, so the can looks round. Your 3D cylinder is done!
