How to Draw a Pope Hat

10 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a pope hat in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: tall pointed hat.

Print

  1. Step 1: Tall pointed hat

Draw a flat bottom line. Go up each side, then lean both sides in to meet at a point.

Tip Make it taller than it is wide, like a pointed arch.

  2. Step 2: The band

Start on the left side, near the bottom. Draw a line across the hat and stop at the right side.

  3. Step 3: Gold trim

Start on the band near the left side. Follow the edge up to the point and down to the band.

Tip Keep the same small gap from the edge all the way round.

  4. Step 4: A cross

In the middle of the hat, draw a tall cross with a shorter bar across it.

Tip Put the bar nearer the top than the bottom.

  5. Step 5: Jewels

On the band draw a round jewel in the middle and a tall oval jewel on each side.

Tip Leave a gap above and below each jewel.

  6. Step 6: A cushion

Draw a plump cushion under the hat, from its left side round to its right. Add 2 corner tassels.

  7. Step 7: Sparkles

Draw a big sparkle star on the left of the hat and a small one on the right.

  8. Step 8: Gold parts

Go over your lines. Colour the band, trim, cross, tassels and sparkles yellow, going around the jewels.

  9. Step 9: Red jewels

Colour the 3 jewels red. Leave the rest of the hat white.

  10. Step 10: Purple cushion

Colour the cushion purple. Your pope hat is done!
