How to Draw a Pocket
Draw a pocket in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the cloth.
Step 1: The cloth
Draw a big square that nearly fills the page. This is the cloth of the jeans.
Tip Round the corners a tiny bit.
Step 2: Pocket sides
Start top left. Go down, slant in to a point, slant out, then up. Stop at the top right.
Tip Both sides lean in a little, so the pocket is widest at the top.
Step 3: Back edge
Start at the pocket's top left end. Draw a straight line across and stop at the top right end.
Step 4: Open top
Start at the top left corner. Draw a curve that sags a little and stop at the top right corner.
Tip The gap between the 2 lines is where your hand slides in.
Step 5: The hem
Just below, draw the same sagging curve. Start on the pocket's left side and stop on its right side.
Step 6: Hem stitches
Inside the hem, draw 5 little dashes in a row that follow the curve.
Step 7: Side stitches
Draw little dashes just inside the pocket edge: 4 down each side and 3 along each slanted bottom edge.
Tip Keep the dashes the same length, like real stitches.
Step 8: Light blue cloth
Colour the cloth light blue, all around the pocket.
Step 9: Blue pocket
Go over your lines. Colour the pocket blue, right up to the open top.
Step 10: Dark inside
Colour the thin gap at the top dark blue. Your pocket is ready to fill!

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a pocket, drawn by you.
