How to Draw a Platypus
Draw a platypus in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide head.
Step 1: Wide head
Near the top draw a wide head, as wide as your palm, with fat cheeks. Leave lots of room below.
Tip The body will be bigger than the head.
Step 2: Duck bill
Low on the face draw a wide flat bill poking below the chin. Add a smile and 2 nostrils.
Tip Nearly as wide as the head.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the bill draw 2 big round eyes, one eye apart. Add black dots with white shines.
Step 4: Big round body
Start under the left cheek. Draw a big fat pear body, widest at the tummy. Stop under the right cheek.
Tip Make the body taller and a bit wider than the head.
Step 5: Left arm and paw
From the left side under the bill draw an arm sloping in to a plump mitten. Add 2 toe lines.
Step 6: Right arm and paw
From the right side under the bill draw the other arm the same way. The mittens sit side by side.
Step 7: Two webbed feet
Near the bottom of the body draw a flat paddle foot poking out each side. Add 2 web lines.
Step 8: Flat tail
Low on the right draw a big flat oval tail poking out behind the body, as wide as the tummy.
Step 9: Water
Draw wave bumps from the left edge to the tummy, and from the tummy to the right edge.
Step 10: Tan tummy
Colour the tummy and the 2 feet tan, around the arms.
Step 11: Blue water
Colour the water blue down to the bottom of the paper, around the platypus.
Step 12: Brown fur, grey bill
Colour the head, arms and tail brown, and the bill grey around the nostrils.
Tip Leave the eyes white.
