How to Draw a Plate
Draw a plate in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the plate.
Step 1: The plate
In the middle of your paper draw one big wide oval, nearly as wide as the page, half as tall.
Tip A plate seen from a little above is a wide oval, not a circle.
Step 2: The middle
Inside it draw a second smaller oval, a thumb in from the edge all the way round.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Above the middle of the plate draw 2 big egg eyes, each with a black dot and 2 white shines.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile from eye to eye, with a small oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The plate's thin edge
Start near the big oval's left end. Draw a long shallow curve just under it, stopping near the right end.
Tip Thin! A plate is flat, not a bowl.
Step 6: A cookie
On the lower right of the middle, under the cheek, draw a round cookie about the size of an eye.
Step 7: Chips and shine
Draw 4 little chip dots spread out in the cookie. Add 2 short shine lines on the top left rim.
Step 8: The table
Draw a long table line behind the plate, a little above its bottom, lifting your pencil where the plate is.
Step 9: Sky rim
Go over your lines, then colour the rim and the edge sky blue. Leave the middle and the eyes white.
Step 10: Tan cookie, brown chips
Colour the cookie tan, going around the chips, and the chips brown.
Step 11: Pink cheeks
Colour the cheeks pink, and your plate is ready for dinner!
