How to Draw a Pirate

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a pirate in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: head and neck.

Print

  1. Step 1: Head and neck

Near the top, draw an egg head. From the chin, draw 2 short neck lines, stopping a thumb below.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

  2. Step 2: The face

Below the middle, draw 2 small oval eyes with black dots. Add a tiny nose and a smile.

  3. Step 3: Bandana

Start above the left eye. Draw the bandana over the head, down to the right, and back across the forehead.

Tip Add a small knot on the right with 2 flappy tails.

  4. Step 4: Striped shirt

From the left neck line, draw a short-sleeved shirt round to the right one. Rule 4 stripes across it.

Tip Space the stripes from the shoulders down, each one from edge to edge.

  5. Step 5: Arms and hands

From inside each sleeve, draw a softly bent arm down to a small round mitten, and back up.

Tip Bump out a little thumb pointing in toward the body.

  6. Step 6: Wide sash

Start at the shirt's bottom left corner. Draw a wide sash band down, across and up to the right corner.

Tip Add a knot on the right with 2 tails hanging down.

  7. Step 7: Trousers

From the sash's bottom left corner, draw the trousers down, across, and up to the right corner.

Tip The trousers dip up to a point between the legs.

  8. Step 8: Boots and ground

Under each leg, draw a tall boot with the toe pointing out. Rule the ground under the boots.

Tip Keep the bottom of each boot flat on the ground.

  9. Step 9: Parrot

On the left shoulder, draw a parrot: an egg body, a round head, a hooked beak, a dot eye.

Tip Add a wing line, 2 little feet holding the shoulder, and a long tail hanging down behind.

  10. Step 10: Peach and pink

Colour the skin peach around the cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Colour the cheeks pink.

  11. Step 11: Red and blue

Colour the bandana and sash red. Colour every other shirt band blue, leaving the top band white.

  12. Step 12: Green and brown

Colour the parrot green. Colour its beak and feet, the trousers and boots brown, around the sash.
