How to Draw a Partridge

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a partridge in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Near the top, draw a big round head, a little wider than tall, with a tiny chin bump in front.

Tip Leave room on the right and underneath for the body.

  2. Step 2: Tiny beak

Start on the head's front. Draw a tiny fat beak out to a point and back. Add a mouth line.

  3. Step 3: Eye and face patch

Draw a round eye with a black dot. Curve a C patch round it, from above the beak to the chin.

Tip Leave a finger of cheek between the beak and the eye.

  4. Step 4: Plump body

Start behind the head. Curve down to the rump, round a fat belly, and up to stop under the beak.

Tip The body is a plump egg, narrower than the head.

  5. Step 5: Stubby tail

From the rump draw a short round fan down and back to the tummy line. Add 2 short feather lines.

  6. Step 6: Wing and tummy patch

Draw a teardrop wing from head to rump with 2 stripes. Add a round patch low on the tummy.

  7. Step 7: Front leg and toes

Start on the tummy. Draw a short thin leg with 3 slim toes, then go back up to the tummy.

Tip Thin toes like twigs: 2 point forward and 1 points back.

  8. Step 8: Back leg and toes

Draw the other leg the same way, further back under the tummy, starting and stopping on the tummy line.

  9. Step 9: Ground and grass

Draw a ground line from the left edge, under the toes, to the right edge. Add grass at each end.

  10. Step 10: Tan and orange

Colour the beak, legs and toes tan. Colour the face patch orange, leaving the eye white.

  11. Step 11: Grey head and body

Colour the head and body grey, around the orange face, the wing and the tummy patch.

  12. Step 12: Brown wing and tail

Go over your lines, then colour the wing, the tail and the tummy patch brown.
