How to Draw Pinocchio

Step 1: The head

Near the top of your paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave most of the page below for the body and legs.

Step 2: Face

Draw 2 big eyes with eyebrows above them and a smile below. Colour the pupils black, leaving a shine.

Step 3: Long nose

Start under the eyes in the middle. Draw a long stick nose out left and back. Stop where you started.

Tip The long nose is the big clue: a straight stick with a round tip.

Step 4: Pointed cap

Across the forehead draw a narrow band. From its ends draw a tall pointed cap, tip leaning right.

Step 5: Shirt and bow tie

Start under the chin with 2 neck lines. Draw a boxy shirt with short sleeves, back to the neck.

Tip Add a bow tie under the chin: a knot with a triangle each side.

Step 6: Arms

From each sleeve draw 2 lines down to the wrist, closer together at the bottom.

Step 7: Mitten hands

Under each wrist draw a mitten like the bottom of an egg, with a little thumb pointing in.

Step 8: Shorts and braces

Start at the bottom left of the shirt. Draw shorts down and up, back to the right. Add 2 straps.

Tip Each strap runs up to the shoulder, with a button at the bottom.

Step 9: Legs

Start on each leg of the shorts and draw 2 long lines down, stopping above the bottom of the page.

Step 10: Wooden joints

Draw a small circle on each arm at the elbow and on each leg at the knee, like puppet joints.

Tip The round joints are what make him a wooden boy.

Step 11: Shoes and ground

Under each leg draw a shoe with the toe pointing out and a toe cap curve. Add a ground line.

Step 12: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour pink cheeks, then the face, nose, neck, arms, hands and legs peach around them. Leave the eyes white.

Step 13: Yellow shirt, red cap

Colour the shirt yellow, around the braces and bow tie. Colour the cap and bow tie red.

Step 14: Blue shorts, brown shoes

Colour the braces and shorts blue and the shoes brown. Go over your lines. Done!
