How to Draw a Balloon Artist

Step 1: The head

Near the top of the paper draw an egg for the head, a little narrower at the chin.

Tip Leave room below for the body, and on the left for the balloon dog.

Step 2: The face

Draw 2 oval eyes, a U nose and a smile. Add C ears: start and stop on the head line.

Step 3: Curly hair

Start on the head's left side. Draw curly tufts over the top, stop on the right. Add a hairline curve.

Step 4: Neck and shirt

Draw 2 neck lines under the chin. From the left one, draw a short-sleeved shirt ending at the right one.

Step 5: Bow tie and waistcoat

Draw a bow tie under the chin: 2 triangles and a knot. Add a waistcoat panel down each side.

Tip Leave the middle of the shirt showing between the panels.

Step 6: Arms and fists

From each sleeve draw an arm bending at the elbow to a round fist. Raise the left fist high.

Tip Make each arm thicker at the shoulder than at the wrist, and add a little C for each thumb.

Step 7: The balloon dog

Draw a sausage body on the left fist, then 4 legs, a neck, a snout, 2 ears and a tail.

Tip Every part is a fat little sausage balloon. Put 2 legs on each side of the fist.

Step 8: Trousers and shoes

Start at the left of the hem. Draw 2 trouser legs, stop at the right. Add shoes and the ground.

Step 9: Balloons

Up on the right draw 2 round balloons, each with a tiny knot and a wiggly string into the fist.

Step 10: Peach skin, pink cheeks

Colour the face, neck, ears, arms and fists peach, with a pink circle on each cheek. Go over your lines.

Tip Keep the eyes white.

Step 11: Yellow shirt, red waistcoat

Colour the shirt, sleeves and right balloon yellow, and the waistcoat, bow tie and left balloon red.

Step 12: Blue dog, brown hair

Colour the balloon dog blue, and the hair and shoes brown.

Step 13: Navy trousers

Colour the trousers navy. Go over your lines.
