How to Draw a Phoenix
Draw a phoenix in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.
Step 1: Round head
Near the top left draw a big round head, a little wider than tall.
Step 2: Flame tuft
On the top back of the head, draw 3 flames leaning back. Make the middle one tallest.
Step 3: Hooked beak
Start on the front of the head. Draw a short fat beak hooking down to a point, and back.
Step 4: Big eye
A finger behind the beak draw a big round eye with a black dot and a white shine.
Step 5: Folded wing
Start under the back of the head. Draw a round shoulder, sweep back down to a point, and back up.
Step 6: Plump body
Start under the wing. Draw a fat round belly forward and up, and stop under the beak.
Step 7: Legs and toes
Under the tummy draw 2 short legs, a thumb apart, each with 3 chubby toes.
Step 8: The branch
Start at the left, just under the ankles. Draw a long branch across to the right, passing behind the toes.
Step 9: Flame tail
Behind the wing, draw 3 big wavy flame feathers fanning out: one up, one across, one down.
Step 10: Inner flames
Inside each tail feather, draw a smaller flame with a pointed tip.
Step 11: Yellow flames
Colour the middle tuft flame, the beak and the 3 inner tail flames yellow.
Step 12: Orange fire
Colour the 2 side tuft flames, the wing and the 3 tail feathers orange, around the yellow.
Step 13: Red bird
Colour the head and the body red. Leave the eye white.
Step 14: Grey legs, brown branch
Colour the legs and toes grey and the branch brown. Your phoenix is done!
