How to Draw a Magic Circle

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a magic circle in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the big circle.

Print

  1. Step 1: The big circle

Draw a big circle that fills most of your paper. Everything goes inside it.

Tip Draw round a plate if you like: a magic circle is neat and round.

  2. Step 2: The inner circle

Draw a second circle a thumb's width inside the first one. Now you have a ring.

  3. Step 3: A big diamond

Inside the ring draw a big diamond. Start at the top. Its 4 corners touch the inner circle.

Tip Use a ruler if you like: all 4 sides are the same length.

  4. Step 4: A big square

Draw a square over the diamond, starting top left. Its 4 corners touch the circle between the diamond's corners.

Tip Look: the 2 shapes make a star with 8 points!

  5. Step 5: The centre circle

In the very middle of the star draw a small circle.

  6. Step 6: A crescent moon

Inside the small circle draw a big C. Add a shallower C back to the start: a moon.

Tip Both curves start and stop at the same 2 points: the moon's horns.

  7. Step 7: 4 sparkles

In the ring draw 4 sparkle stars: one at the top, the bottom, the left and the right.

Tip Each sparkle sits just past a corner of the diamond.

  8. Step 8: 4 dots

Halfway between the sparkles, draw 4 small round dots in the ring.

  9. Step 9: Yellow moon and marks

Go over your lines. Colour the moon, the 4 sparkles and the 4 dots yellow.

  10. Step 10: Sky points, teal ring

Colour the 8 points of the star sky blue. Colour the ring teal, around the sparkles and dots.

  11. Step 11: Purple star middle

Colour the middle of the star purple, around the centre circle.

  12. Step 12: Navy night sky

Colour the 8 gaps round the star navy. Colour the centre navy too, around the moon. Done!

Tip Dark blue behind the yellow moon makes your magic circle glow.
