How to Draw Penne
Draw penne in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
A little below the middle, draw a wide flat oval about a hand wide, for the top of the bowl.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the left end of the oval. Draw a big U down and up to the right end.
Step 3: The foot
Under the bowl, start on the bottom left. Go down a little, across, and up to the bottom right.
Step 4: The sauce
Inside the rim, draw a second flat oval a finger in, for the sauce under the penne.
Step 5: Two penne
On the sauce, draw 2 fat tubes with slanted ends, the left one tilting up, the right one tilting down.
Tip Like little straws cut on a slant. Rub out the rim and sauce lines inside the tubes.
Step 6: One in front
In front, in the middle, draw 1 more slanted tube lying almost flat, covering the end of the left one.
Tip Lift your pencil on the back tube where the front one covers it.
Step 7: Open ends
On the slanted end of each tube, draw a long tilted oval for the opening, with a smaller oval inside.
Step 8: Ridges and basil
Draw a line along each tube for a ridge. On the right tube, draw a little pointed basil leaf.
Step 9: A stripe and steam
Draw a bowed stripe round the bowl under the rim, from left to right. Add 2 wiggly steam lines above.
Step 10: The table
Draw a long line under the foot, just touching its bottom.
Step 11: Yellow penne
Colour all 3 tubes and their ends yellow, leaving the leaf and the little holes white.
Step 12: Red sauce, green basil
Colour the sauce red around the penne, and the basil green.
Step 13: Blue stripe, white bowl
Colour the band between the stripe and the rim blue and leave the rest of the bowl white.
