How to Draw a Penguin

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a penguin in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: big egg head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Big egg head

Near the top, draw a big egg, a bit wider at the bottom. It is almost half the penguin.

Tip Leave room underneath for the body, flippers and feet.

  2. Step 2: White face

Start on the left cheek. Draw a big upside-down U inside the head and stop on the right cheek.

Tip Keep the black band the same thickness all round, like a hood.

  3. Step 3: The beak

In the lower half of the white face, draw a small rounded triangle beak, point down.

Tip Leave room above the beak for the eyes.

  4. Step 4: Two big eyes

Above the beak, draw 2 big egg eyes, a gap apart. Add big black dots with a white shine.

  5. Step 5: Rosy cheeks

Beside the beak, under each eye, draw a small sideways oval cheek.

  6. Step 6: Plump body

Start on the left cheek. Draw a big fat egg body down and back up to the right cheek.

Tip The body is a little wider than the head, fattest near the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Two flippers

Start on the body under the left cheek. Draw a fat paddle flipper out and back to the body.

Tip Rub out the body line between the ends. Tips stay above the feet.

  8. Step 8: White tummy

Start where the white face ends on the left. Draw a big U inside the body, stopping on the right.

Tip Leave a band of black around the tummy.

  9. Step 9: Two feet

Under the body, draw 2 wide feet with 3 round toes each. Rub out the body line inside them.

Tip The feet poke up a little over the bottom line.

  10. Step 10: Snow

Start under the left flipper. Draw a bumpy snow line under the feet to the right flipper.

Tip The toes stand right on the snow line.

  11. Step 11: Orange and pink

Colour the beak and both feet orange, and the 2 cheeks pink.

  12. Step 12: Colour the penguin black

Colour the head, body and flippers black, around the feet. Leave the face, eyes and tummy white.
