How to Draw a Megalosaurus

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a megalosaurus in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: long head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Long head

Near the top left draw a big long head, like a loaf: round at the back, blunt at the snout.

Tip Make it big: the eye and smile must fit. Leave room right and below.

  2. Step 2: Big eye

Draw a big round eye above the middle of the head. Add a nostril dot on the snout.

Tip A fat black dot with 2 white shines.

  3. Step 3: Smile and teeth

From the front of the snout draw a long smile back under the eye, curling up at the end.

Tip Hang 5 little triangle teeth along the front of the smile.

  4. Step 4: Back and tail

Start behind the head. Draw down the neck, along the back, out to the tail tip and back underneath.

Tip Think carrot: the tail is fat at the body and thin at the tip.

  5. Step 5: Chest and tummy

Start under the head. Draw one bowed curve down the chest and along the tummy. Stop at the tail.

Tip Push the chest out in front, like a fat pear.

  6. Step 6: Fat thigh

Draw one big egg on the hip for the thigh, fat end up, narrow end pointing down and forward.

Tip Rub out the bit of tummy line inside the thigh.

  7. Step 7: Leg and foot

From the thigh's narrow end draw a shin slanting back to the ankle, then a foot with 3 toes.

  8. Step 8: Far leg and ground

Start on the tummy behind the thigh. Draw the far leg down to a foot and back. Add the ground.

  9. Step 9: Arm and hand

From the chest draw a short arm bending forward at the elbow. End it in 3 short pointy fingers.

  10. Step 10: Tummy patch

Start on the chest line under the head. Draw a bowed curve down the tummy, stopping on the thigh.

  11. Step 11: Back stripes

Hang 4 pointed stripes from the top line, evenly spaced from the shoulders to the tail.

Tip Each stripe starts and stops on the back line.

  12. Step 12: Cream tummy

Go over your lines. Colour the tummy patch cream.

  13. Step 13: Colour it teal

Colour the head, body, tail, legs and arm teal, around the tummy and stripes. Leave the eye and teeth white.

  14. Step 14: Dark stripes

Colour the 4 stripes dark blue. Your megalosaurus is done!
