How to Draw a Pawn

13 steps · Medium · about 10 min

Draw a pawn in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: round head.

Print

  1. Step 1: Round head

Near the top, in the middle, draw a big round ball for the pawn's head.

Tip Leave room below for the body: the ball is about a third of the pawn.

  2. Step 2: Two eyes

On the ball draw 2 big round eyes a finger apart, with a black dot and a shine in each.

  3. Step 3: Smile and cheeks

Start under the left eye. Draw a wide U smile and stop under the right eye. Add 2 oval cheeks.

  4. Step 4: Collar

Start on the ball, low on the left. Draw a flat oval collar under it and stop on the right.

Tip The collar sticks out a little wider than the ball.

  5. Step 5: Flared body

Start under the collar, near the middle. Draw 2 lines down that curve apart like a bell. Stop low down.

Tip Narrow at the neck, wide at the bottom.

  6. Step 6: Base

Start at the end of one line. Draw a fat, flat base and stop at the other line.

Tip Round at the sides, straight along the bottom.

  7. Step 7: Base lines

Draw a curved line across the top of the base. Draw another across its middle.

  8. Step 8: Little pawns

On each side draw a small pawn: a ball head, then a body that flares to a flat base.

Tip They stand on the same line as the big pawn.

  9. Step 9: The board

Draw a straight line across the paper under all 3 pawns.

  10. Step 10: Sparkles

Draw a sparkle star on each side of the head.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks, cream pawn

Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the big pawn cream, around the eyes and cheeks. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Yellow sparkles

Colour the 2 sparkle stars yellow.

  13. Step 13: Grey pawns

Colour the 2 little pawns dark grey. Go over your lines and your pawn is done!
