How to Draw a Djembe
Draw a djembe in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: drum head.
Step 1: Drum head
Near the top, draw a wide flat oval for the skin on top of the drum.
Tip A djembe is shaped like a goblet: wide on top, narrow in the middle.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the oval's left end. Curve down in to a narrow waist, and back up to the right end.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the bowl, draw 2 big egg eyes with a gap, and a black dot in each.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a U smile. Add a small flat oval cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The foot
Start at the waist's left. Draw a flared skirt down to the floor and back up to the waist's right.
Step 6: Rim lines
Under the oval, draw a smile curve across for the rim. Add a short one under the waist.
Step 7: Rope lacing
From the rim's left end, draw a zigzag of 6 rope V's above the eyes. Stop at the right end.
Step 8: Music notes
Draw a music note in the air on each side of the drum.
Step 9: Floor and shadow
Draw a thin flat oval under the foot for the shadow. From each end, draw a floor line outwards.
Step 10: Tan skin, pink cheeks
Colour the drum head tan and the cheeks pink.
Step 11: Brown drum, grey shadow
Colour the bowl and foot brown around the eyes and cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Colour the shadow grey.
Step 12: Black notes
Go over your lines and colour the note heads black. Your djembe is ready to drum!
