How to Draw a Bookworm
Draw a bookworm in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Above the middle, a little right, draw a dome head: round on top, flatter along the bottom.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Across the middle of the head draw 2 big eggy eyes. Add a black dot and white shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a smile, a flat top and a wide U. Add an oval cheek below each eye.
Step 4: Round glasses
Draw a bigger circle round each eye for glasses. Join them with a tiny bridge, plus an arm each side.
Tip Leave a little white gap all round each eye. A bookworm always wears glasses!
Step 5: The book cover
Under the head draw a flat diamond lying down: the top of a closed book seen from above.
Step 6: Spine and pages
Under the cover draw a thick slab. On the right side add 2 page lines and a back cover line.
Tip The plain left side is the book's spine.
Step 7: The body
From the chin draw a fat tube body wiggling down to the book, then rub out the chin line between.
Tip Draw one side down, then the other side back up to the chin.
Step 8: The hole
Round the worm's bottom draw a flat oval hole. Don't draw the part behind the worm.
Tip The worm's tail end is hiding down inside the hole.
Step 9: Body rings
Draw 3 curved rings across the body, each from one side to the other.
Step 10: Cream and peach
Go over your lines. Colour the pages cream and the cheeks peach.
Step 11: Pink worm, red mouth
Colour the worm pink around the cheeks and the mouth, then the mouth red. Leave the eyes white.
Step 12: Blue book, grey hole
Colour the cover, spine and back cover blue, then the hole dark grey, all around the worm.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a bookworm, drawn by you.
