How to Draw a Paintbrush
Draw a paintbrush in 13 easy steps, about 10 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the handle.
Step 1: The handle
Right of the middle, draw a long handle leaning right, with a round top and a flat bottom.
Tip Make it about 4 times taller than it is wide.
Step 2: Metal band
Under the handle, draw a short box that pokes out on both sides. Add a line across near the top.
Step 3: The bristles
Under the band, draw the bristles like a carrot with a round tip, curving in on both sides.
Tip The tip sits right under the middle of the band.
Step 4: Two round eyes
Low on the handle, draw 2 round eyes a little apart, with a big black dot in each.
Step 5: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes, draw a small U smile. Add a little oval cheek under each eye, outside the smile.
Step 6: Dip it in paint
Near the tip, start on the left bristle line. Draw a gentle smile across to the right line.
Tip Everything under this line is dipped in paint.
Step 7: Bristle hairs
Inside the bristles, draw 3 short hair lines. Start each on the band and stop above the paint line.
Step 8: Paint a line
Start at the bristle tip. Draw a long line to the left that dips, then swoops up to a point.
Step 9: Make it fat
Start on the tip, a bit higher. Draw a second line above the first that meets it at the point.
Tip The stroke starts thin, gets fat in the middle and whips to a point.
Step 10: Two drops
Off the point of the stroke, draw 2 small raindrops, with a gap before each, pointy ends aiming back.
Step 11: Sand bristles, pink cheeks
Colour the bristles sand down to the paint line. Colour the two little cheeks pink.
Step 12: Wood handle, grey band
Colour the handle wood brown around the pink cheeks, leaving the eyes white. Colour the band grey.
Step 13: Blue paint
Colour the tip under the paint line, the paint stroke and the two drops blue.
