How to Draw an Ostrich
Draw an ostrich in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: a small round head.
Step 1: A small round head
Near the top left of your paper, draw a small round head, a little wider than tall.
Tip Leave lots of room below for the long neck, body and legs.
Step 2: Flat beak
On the front of the head, draw a short flat beak with a round tip. Add a mouth line.
Step 3: Big eye with lashes
Behind the beak, draw a big round eye with a black dot and shine. Add 3 lashes flicking up.
Tip Leave a finger of cheek between the beak and the eye.
Step 4: Curvy neck
Start under the head. Draw 2 long curvy neck lines swinging down and back. Stop about halfway down the paper.
Tip Thin like a hose, a little wider at the bottom.
Step 5: Big pear body
Draw a big pear body across the neck ends, 2 heads wide, fat end at the back.
Step 6: Plume wing
Draw a wing a finger under the back, with a round front, 3 feather bumps and a point.
Step 7: Fluffy tail
Start on the back of the body. Draw 3 fluffy tail bumps and stop back on the body lower down.
Step 8: One long leg
Under the tummy, draw a long leg, thick at the top, bending back halfway. End with 2 big toes.
Tip Ostrich legs are like 2 pencils, fat at the top, thin at the ankle.
Step 9: The other long leg
A hand further back, draw the second leg the same way, with 2 big toes on the ground.
Step 10: Ground and grass
Draw a ground line under the feet, from edge to edge. Add a grass tuft at each end.
Step 11: Peach head and legs
Colour the head, neck and both legs soft peach, leaving the eye white. Colour the beak orange.
Step 12: Grey body, white plumes
Colour the big body and the wing slate grey. Leave the fluffy tail white.
