How to Draw a North America Map

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a north america map in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the top coast.

Print

  1. Step 1: The top coast

Start near the top left. Draw a bumpy line to the right, with one tall bump. Stop past the middle.

Tip North America is wide at the top and thin at the bottom.

  2. Step 2: The big bay

Carry on from there. Draw a big U with a small pocket at the bottom. Stop level with its start.

Tip This huge bay is called Hudson Bay.

  3. Step 3: The east bump

Carry on from the bay. Go right, dip, make a point, then slant down right. Stop at a corner.

  4. Step 4: Bay and bump

Start at that corner. Curve left and down, poke out a pointed bump, then stop just below it.

  5. Step 5: The east coast

Carry on from there. Draw a line slanting down to the left, then straight down to a thin tip.

Tip The thin bit hanging down is Florida.

  6. Step 6: The warm gulf

Start at the thin tip. Go up, then draw a big round C to the left. Stop at a point.

  7. Step 7: The thin tail

Carry on from that point. Draw a bumpy line down, slanting right. Stop at the bottom and turn the corner.

  8. Step 8: The Pacific side

Start at the bottom corner. Draw a long line up and left, beside your last line. Stop below the middle.

  9. Step 9: The west coast

Carry on from there. Draw a thin finger down and back, then a line up. Stop halfway up your paper.

  10. Step 10: Round to Alaska

Carry on from there. Curve up to the left, then down into a long pointed tail. Stop at its tip.

  11. Step 11: Close the coast

Start at the tip of the tail. Draw a line up with 2 pointed bumps. Join your first line.

  12. Step 12: The big islands

Above the top coast, draw 3 islands. To the right of them draw a huge island, Greenland.

Tip Greenland is the biggest island in the world.

  13. Step 13: Blue sea

Go over your lines. Colour the sea light blue, out to the edges of your paper.

  14. Step 14: Green land

Colour the land and the 4 islands green. Your map of North America is done!
