How to Draw a Trapezoidal Prism

12 steps · Medium · about 9 min

Draw a trapezoidal prism in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: top and bottom.

Print

  1. Step 1: Top and bottom

Draw a long flat line: start left, stop right. Above its middle draw a shorter flat line.

Tip Keep the 2 lines level, like the floor. The short one sits over the middle of the long one.

  2. Step 2: Slanted sides

Join the ends with 2 slanted lines. Start at each end of the top line, stop at the bottom line.

Tip A trapezoid has 4 sides, and only the top and bottom run the same way.

  3. Step 3: Two big eyes

In the middle of the trapezoid draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, leaving a shine.

  4. Step 4: Big smile

Leave a gap under the eyes, then draw a wide U smile. Start under one eye, stop under the other.

  5. Step 5: Rosy cheeks

Under the outside of each eye, clear of the smile, draw a small sideways oval for a cheek.

  6. Step 6: The top side

Start at each end of the top line. Slant 2 short lines up right, stop, and join them.

Tip The back line is the same length as the top line in front of it.

  7. Step 7: The right side

Start at the back corner and copy the right slant down. Stop, then slant back to the bottom corner.

  8. Step 8: Sparkles

Draw 2 sparkle stars on each side of the prism, one high and one low.

  9. Step 9: Floor and shadow

Draw a thin flat oval shadow round the bottom of the prism. Add a floor line out from each end.

  10. Step 10: Yellow sparkles and top

Go over your lines. Colour the 4 sparkles and the top side of the prism yellow.

  11. Step 11: Pink cheeks, green front

Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the trapezoid front light green, around the face. Leave the eyes white.

  12. Step 12: Grey shadow, green side

Colour the shadow grey and the right side dark green. Your trapezoidal prism is done!
