How to Draw a Nightgown

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a nightgown in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the neck hole.

Print

  1. Step 1: The neck hole

Near the top draw a low rainbow 3 fingers wide. From its left end dip a U to the right.

  2. Step 2: Shoulders and sleeves

Start at the rainbow's left end. Slope over the shoulder, down the sleeve, cuff, up to the armpit. Same right.

  3. Step 3: The long gown

Start at the left armpit. Draw a long line down, flaring out. Stop near the bottom. Same right.

Tip A nightgown is long and loose, so make the bottom much wider than the top.

  4. Step 4: Frilly hem

Start at the left bottom end. Draw 7 small U bumps in a row across to the right end.

  5. Step 5: The frill line

Start on the left side, a finger above the bumps. Draw a long gentle smile across to the right side.

  6. Step 6: Sleeve cuffs

A finger above each sleeve end, draw a line from the outside edge across to the inside edge.

  7. Step 7: A little bow

Under the neck hole draw a small oval knot. Add a fat loop on each side of it.

  8. Step 8: Sleepy stars

Draw 8 little 4-point stars: one on each sleeve and 6 spread over the gown.

  9. Step 9: Yellow stars

    Colour all 8 stars yellow.

  10. Step 10: Pink bow and frills

Colour the bow, the 2 sleeve cuffs and the frill along the bottom pink.

  11. Step 11: Blue nightgown

Colour the nightgown light blue around the stars, bow, cuffs and frill. Leave the neck hole white. All done!
