How to Draw a New Zealand Flag

11 steps · Medium · about 8 min

Draw a new zealand flag in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the flag pole.

Print

  1. Step 1: The flag pole

On the left draw a tall thin pole from near the bottom to near the top. Add a ball.

  2. Step 2: The waving flag

Start on the pole below the ball. Wave the top edge out to the right, come down, and wave back.

Tip Keep the right edge straight up and down.

  3. Step 3: The corner box

Start on the top edge at the middle. Draw straight down to halfway, then wave back to the pole.

Tip The box fills one quarter of the flag.

  4. Step 4: The wide cross

Draw a wide cross through the middle of the corner box, from top to bottom and side to side.

Tip Draw 4 corner lines, one in each corner, and leave the middle open.

  5. Step 5: Slanted bands

From each corner of the box draw 2 lines towards the middle, stopping at the cross.

Tip Aim every band at the middle of the cross.

  6. Step 6: Four stars

On the right draw 4 stars with 5 points: one high, one low, one left, one right.

Tip They make a kite shape called the Southern Cross. The low star is the biggest.

  7. Step 7: Ground line

Draw a long flat ground line under the pole, from the left side to the right side.

  8. Step 8: Yellow ball, grey pole

Colour the ball on top of the pole yellow and the pole grey.

  9. Step 9: Red cross and stars

Colour the wide cross red. Colour the 4 stars red too.

Tip Leave the slanted bands white.

  10. Step 10: Dark blue corner

In the corner box, colour the 8 little triangles dark blue.

Tip Each corner of the box has 2 triangles, one each side of the white band.

  11. Step 11: Dark blue flag

Colour the rest of the flag dark blue. Leave a thin white edge around every star.

Tip Stop just before each star so a white edge shows all the way round.
