How to Draw a Mountain Lion

Draw a mountain lion in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: wide head.

Step 1: Wide head
Near the top, draw a wide head like a soft bun. Make it wider than it is tall.
Tip Leave room on the right for a long tail.
Step 2: Small round ears
On each top corner of the head, draw a small round ear. Add a little curve inside each one.
Tip Mountain lion ears are small and round, never pointy.
Step 3: Bright eyes
Above the middle of the head, draw 2 big egg eyes. Add a black dot and a shine in each.
Step 4: Snout and smile
Under the eyes, draw a wide snout and a black nose. Start at the nose, draw down into a w.
Step 5: Whiskers
Start on each side of the snout. Flick 2 short whiskers out, stopping before the edge of the face.
Step 6: Pear body
Draw a ground line. From each cheek, draw a line down that swells out wide, stopping on the ground.
Tip The body is narrow at the shoulders and wide at the bottom, like a pear.
Step 7: Front legs
Under the chin, draw 2 long front legs side by side. Each ends in a plump paw on the ground.
Tip Leave a gap between the legs for the tummy.
Step 8: Back paws
Beside each front leg, draw a bun paw on the ground. It reaches just past the body line.
Step 9: Chest lines
Start on the chin above each front leg. Draw a short line down to the top of the leg.
Step 10: Toes
On each of the 4 paws, draw 2 short toe lines up from the bottom.
Step 11: Long thick tail
From behind the right back paw, draw a thick tail along the ground, curling up. Cross it near the tip.
Tip A mountain lion's tail is almost as long as its body.
Step 12: Cream parts
Colour the snout, the inner ears, the chest and the strip between the front legs cream.
Step 13: Tan coat
Colour the rest of the mountain lion tan, around the cream parts. Leave the eyes and the tail tip white.
Step 14: Black tail tip
Colour the tip of the tail black, up to the line. Your mountain lion is done!
