How to Draw a Mortar and Pestle
Draw a mortar and pestle in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the rim.
Step 1: The rim
Draw a wide oval. Start a thumb inside it and draw a second oval until it joins up.
Tip A mortar is a heavy stone bowl; the pestle is the grinding club.
Step 2: The bowl
Start at the left end of the big oval. Draw down, round the bottom, and up to the right end.
Step 3: Two big eyes
In the middle of the bowl draw 2 big egg eyes. Colour a black dot in each, with a shine.
Step 4: Smile and cheeks
Under the eyes draw a wide U smile, with a small flat cheek beside each end.
Step 5: The foot
Under the bowl draw a short wide foot: 2 short lines down and a flat line across between them.
Step 6: The pestle
From the front edge of the rim draw a thick bar leaning up right, with a round knob on top.
Step 7: Spices inside
Inside the rim draw 4 tiny circles for the peppercorns being ground.
Step 8: The table
Draw a long table line from left to right, touching the bottom of the foot.
Step 9: Pink cheeks, stone bowl
Colour the cheeks pink. Colour the bowl, rim and foot stone grey around the cheeks. Leave the eyes white.
Step 10: Grey inside, wood pestle
Colour the inside of the rim grey and the pestle wood brown.
Step 11: Black peppercorns
Colour the peppercorns black. Your mortar and pestle is ready to grind!
