How to Draw a Moorish Idol
Draw a Moorish idol in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: disc body and snout.
Step 1: Disc body and snout
Start on the right. Draw a tall dome to a little snout, curve back under, and stop below your start.
Tip Leave the right end open for the tail.
Step 2: Eye, mouth and snout
Draw a big eye with a shine and a tiny mouth. Curve a line across the snout, top to bottom.
Step 3: Crescent tail
Start at the back. Draw a tail with 2 points and a dent between them. Stop at the tummy.
Step 4: Streamer fin
Start above the eye. Draw a tall fin with a long thin streamer past the tail. Stop on the back.
Tip Keep the streamer thin, like a ribbon.
Step 5: Bottom fin
Start on the tummy behind the eye. Draw a small fin swept back to a point. Stop on the tummy.
Step 6: Side fin
Behind the eye, just below the middle, draw a small leaf fin pointing down and back.
Step 7: Two wide bands
Draw 2 wide bands across the body from back to tummy: 1 behind the eye and 1 nearer the tail.
Tip Each band is as wide as the eye: bold, not thin.
Step 8: Bubbles
In front of the face, draw 3 bubbles floating up, each bigger than the one below.
Step 9: Sand and seaweed
Draw a wavy sand line across the bottom, edge to edge. Stand 2 seaweed leaves left and 1 right.
Step 10: Yellow middle, sandy floor
Colour between the bands and the snout yellow, and the floor sandy. Leave the eye and fins white.
Step 11: Blue bubbles, green seaweed
Colour the bubbles light blue and the seaweed green.
Step 12: Dark grey bands
Colour the 2 bands and the tail dark grey. Go over your lines, and your Moorish idol is done!
