How to Draw a Copperhead
Draw a copperhead in 10 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
Draw a big round head, a little wider than it is tall. Leave room below for the long body.
Step 2: Two big eyes
Draw 2 big oval eyes on the middle of the head, one eye apart. Black dot and shine in each.
Step 3: Smile and nostrils
Dot 2 tiny nostrils under the eyes. Then draw a small smile just under them.
Step 4: Forked tongue
Start at the smile. Draw a fat tongue down to 2 little tips and back up to the smile.
Step 5: The coiled body
Start under the right cheek. Draw one long tube looping round and round, thinner each turn, ending in the middle.
Tip Keep a gap between the turns. The tail hides in the middle.
Step 6: The ground
Draw a long straight ground line under the pile, from one edge of the paper to the other.
Step 7: Hourglass bands
Draw 6 hourglass bands across the body, 1 on the neck and 5 round the big coil.
Tip Each hourglass is 2 curved lines that bend in toward each other, like a bow tie.
Step 8: Tan body
Go over your lines, then colour the body tan, going around the hourglasses.
Step 9: Copper head, red tongue
Colour the head coppery orange, leaving the eyes white, and the tongue red.
Step 10: Brown hourglasses
Colour every hourglass brown. Your copperhead is done!
Tip A copper head on hourglass bands: that is a copperhead.

Your finished drawing
Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a copperhead, drawn by you.
