How to Draw a Monk Seal
Draw a monk seal in 12 easy steps, about 9 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the head.
Step 1: The head
On the left of your paper draw a big soft blob for the head, wider than tall.
Tip No ear flaps: a monk seal's head is smooth and round.
Step 2: Nose
Low on the face draw a small wide oval. Add a black triangle nose on its top edge.
Step 3: Two big eyes
Halfway down the head draw 2 big round eyes. Colour a huge black dot in each.
Tip Leave a tiny white shine in each eye.
Step 4: Smile and whiskers
From the nose draw a short line down to a little w smile. Add 2 short whiskers each side.
Step 5: The long body
Start on top of the head. Go over the back, down to the tail, then back along the ground.
Tip A fat sausage: as tall as the head, thin at the tail.
Step 6: Tail flippers
On the narrow end of the body draw 2 fat flaps with a notch between them.
Tip Rub out the end of the body inside the flaps.
Step 7: Front flipper
Start under the chin. Draw a short flat paddle lying on the sand and stop under the cheek.
Tip The paddle hides the bottom of the chest: rub that line out.
Step 8: Flipper grooves
On the paddle tip draw 3 short lines for the toes.
Step 9: Pale belly
Start at the cheek. Draw a long curved line along the body and stop at the tail flippers.
Step 10: The sand
Draw a gently wavy line for the sand from edge to edge, behind the seal.
Step 11: Cream and sand
Colour the belly and the nose oval cream. Colour the sand a sandy yellow.
Step 12: Grey seal
Colour the head, back and flippers grey, around the cream. Leave the eyes white.
