How to Draw a Mobile Crane

Step 1: Cab and deck

Start low left. Go up over a tall cab, halfway down its back, along a flat deck. Stop low right.

Tip The cab is only a quarter of the truck's length.

Step 2: Floor and wheel bumps

Start at the bottom front. Go along the floor, over 3 rainbow bumps, and up to the back.

Tip One bump under the cab, two close together near the back.

Step 3: Three fat tyres

Under each bump, draw a tyre circle a little smaller than the bump. Add a small circle in each.

Step 4: Window and lamp

In the cab, draw a big window that slants at the front. Low on the front, add a lamp.

Step 5: The crane house

Start on the deck. Draw a small tall cab, then a low box behind it. Stop on the deck.

Tip Give the small cab a window too.

Step 6: The boom

Start on top of the low box. Draw a fat arm leaning up and back, and stop on the box.

Tip The arm leans like a ladder against a wall.

Step 7: Sliding piece

Start at the arm's end. Draw a thinner arm sliding out, round its tip, and stop at the arm.

Step 8: Cable and hook

From the tip, drop a straight cable down to a small block. Under it, draw a J hook.

Step 9: Outrigger legs

Start on the floor line. Draw 2 legs with wide flat feet, like upside-down T shapes. Stop on the floor.

Tip These legs stop the crane tipping over when it lifts.

Step 10: The ground

Start at the left edge. Draw a ground line under the tyres and feet, and stop at the right edge.

Step 11: Sky and yellow

Colour both windows sky blue. Colour the boom's fat arm and the lamp yellow.

Step 12: Orange truck

Colour the truck and the crane house orange, around the windows and the lamp.

Step 13: Grey and black

Colour the thin arm, block, legs and hubs grey. Colour the tyres black, around the hubs.
