How to Draw a Covered Wagon
Draw a covered wagon in 11 easy steps, about 8 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.
Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the wagon box.
Step 1: The wagon box
Below the middle draw a long low box with soft corners. Its walls lean out a little.
Tip About 4 times wider than tall. Leave lots of room above for the cover.
Step 2: The canvas bonnet
Start at the box's back corner. Draw a huge rainbow over the box and stop at the front corner.
Tip Twice as tall as the box, like a loaf of bread sitting on it.
Step 3: The hoops
Inside the cover draw 3 hoop lines: gentle bows from the box top up to the cover, spaced out.
Step 4: Two big wheels
Under the box draw a big wheel at the back and a smaller one at the front, with hub circles.
Tip The wheel tops tuck under the box, and both wheels touch the same ground.
Step 5: The spokes
In each wheel draw 3 straight lines crossing at the hub, from rim to rim, for 6 spokes.
Step 6: The tongue pole
From the bottom right corner draw a long pole out to the right, with an upright bar on the end.
Step 7: The ground
Draw a long ground line touching the bottom of both wheels, from the big wheel to past the pole.
Step 8: Grass tufts
On the ground draw 3 little grass tufts, each 3 curved blades from one spot, away from the wheels.
Step 9: Cream canvas
Go over your lines. Colour the canvas cover cream, like soft cloth.
Step 10: Tan hubs, wood box
Colour the two hubs tan, then colour the wagon box wood brown.
Step 11: Brown wheels and pole
Colour both wheels and the pole with its end bar dark brown, going around the tan hubs.

Follow the steps above and this is where you end up: a covered wagon, drawn by you.
