How to Draw a Chicken Life Cycle

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a chicken life cycle in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the egg.

Print

  1. Step 1: The egg

At the top of your paper draw an egg, a little narrower at the top.

Tip Leave lots of room below: three more pictures go in a ring.

  2. Step 2: Cracked shell

On the right draw a bowl for half a shell. Give it a zigzag top edge.

Tip Draw the zigzag first: down, up, down, up.

  3. Step 3: Peeking chick

Draw a round head rising out of the zigzag. Add 2 dot eyes and a small triangle beak.

  4. Step 4: Chick head

At the bottom draw a small round head. Add a dot eye and a pointed beak on the left.

  5. Step 5: Chick body

From under the head draw a fat egg body with a tiny tail point. Add a wing.

Tip Make the body bigger than the head.

  6. Step 6: Chick feet

Under the body draw 2 short legs, each ending in a little foot pointing left.

  7. Step 7: The hen

On the left draw the hen: a round head, a neck, a plump body and a tail sticking up.

Tip Start at the head, go down the chest, round the tummy and up to the tail.

  8. Step 8: Beak and eye

Draw a pointed beak on the front of the head and a round eye with a dot.

  9. Step 9: Comb and wattle

Draw 3 bumps on top of the head for the comb. Hang a small oval under the beak.

Tip The red comb and wattle show she is a grown-up hen.

  10. Step 10: Wing and legs

Draw a wing on the body, pointing back. Add 2 legs with feet pointing right.

  11. Step 11: Arrows around

Draw 4 curved arrows around the ring: egg to shell, shell to chick, chick to hen, hen to egg.

Tip Each arrow ends in a little V.

  12. Step 12: Cream and yellow

Colour the egg and the broken shell cream. Colour both chicks yellow, going around the beak.

  13. Step 13: Orange and red

Colour every beak and every leg orange. Colour the comb and the wattle red.

  14. Step 14: Brown hen

Colour the hen light brown and her wing dark brown. Leave her eye white.
