How to Draw a Metro Train

14 steps · Medium · about 11 min

Draw a metro train in 14 easy steps, about 11 minutes. Free, with a printable worksheet.

Each picture adds one red line. Draw that line, then scroll to the next picture. Rub out any dashed helper lines at the end. First up: the platform edge.

Print

  1. Step 1: The platform edge

Below the middle, rule a long line. Start near the left side and stop near the right side.

Tip Use a ruler if you like. The train stops beside this edge.

  2. Step 2: The long car

Start on the line. Go up, across a flat roof, down a sloping front, and stop on the line.

Tip Round the 2 top corners.

  3. Step 3: The roof strip

Start at the back, just under the roof. Rule a line across and stop at the sloping front.

  4. Step 4: Two wide doors

Draw 2 tall doors standing on the platform line. Rule a line down the middle of each.

  5. Step 5: The skirt line

Low on the train rule a line. Start at the back, skip over each door, and stop at the front.

  6. Step 6: Two side windows

Draw a wide window behind the first door, and another between the 2 doors.

Tip Keep the window tops level.

  7. Step 7: The driver's window

In front of the second door draw a window with a slanted front, like the nose.

  8. Step 8: Door windows

Draw 2 tall narrow windows in each door, one on each side of the middle line.

  9. Step 9: Headlight and buffer

Near the front draw a round headlight. Start low on the nose, draw a small buffer down to the platform.

  10. Step 10: The safety line

Just under the platform edge, rule a second long line. Start at the left and stop at the right.

  11. Step 11: Yellow light and line

Colour the headlight yellow. Colour the long strip on the platform yellow.

  12. Step 12: Blue windows

Colour all 7 windows light blue.

  13. Step 13: Grey doors and platform

Colour the 2 doors light grey around their windows. Colour the platform floor grey too.

  14. Step 14: A red train

Colour the roof strip, the skirt and the buffer dark grey. Colour the rest of the train red.
